Canada Express Entry Federal Skilled Worker Program

Canada's Express Entry program is a system designed to facilitate the selection and processing of skilled foreign workers who wish to immigrate to Canada. The Federal Skilled Worker (FSW) program is a category within the Express Entry program that allows skilled workers with significant work experience, language proficiency, and educational qualifications to apply for Canadian permanent residence.

Eligibility Criteria for FSW program

  • Work experience: You must have at least one year of continuous full-time or equivalent part-time skilled work experience within the past ten years. The work experience must be in one of the eligible occupations under the National Occupational Classification (NOC) system. The eligible occupations are classified under Skill Type 0, Skill Level A, or Skill Level B.
  • Language proficiency: You must demonstrate proficiency in one of Canada's official languages, English or French. You need to take a language test from an approved agency and score a minimum of Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) 7 for each language ability (reading, writing, listening, and speaking).
  • Education: You must have completed a Canadian secondary or post-secondary educational credential, or a foreign credential that is equivalent to a Canadian educational credential. An Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) report from an approved agency must be submitted to prove the equivalency of the foreign credential.
  • Age: You must be under 47 years of age at the time of application.
  • Settlement funds: You must show that you have sufficient funds to support yourself and your family members who accompany you to Canada.
  • Adaptability: You must show that you have the ability to adapt to Canadian society and integrate successfully into the Canadian labour market. Factors that are considered under this criterion include previous work or study experience in Canada, a job offer from a Canadian employer, and language proficiency of the spouse or common-law partner.
  • If you meet the eligibility criteria, you can create an Express Entry profile and submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) to the Canadian government. The EOI is a point-based system where you are assigned points based on various factors such as age, education, work experience, language proficiency, and adaptability. The highest-ranking candidates are then invited to apply for Canadian permanent residence through regular draws that are held by the government.
