For studies in English or any other foreign language, public as well as private institutions charge tuition fees starting at approximately 1000 EUR per semester. Furthermore, public institutions may charge non-refundable registration fees of approximately 20 EUR (500 CZK) following the rules as set forth by the Czech Republic Higher Education Act, while private institutions are free to decide the amount of registration fees payable by students.

The Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport annually offers scholarships to foreign nationals within the framework of intergovernmental exchange programs arranged with a number of countries. These scholarships can only be given to people who have been officially recommended by the right authorities in eligible countries. These people are in charge of getting the applications, setting the deadline for them, and running the process for picking the winners. These can be Czech embassies in other countries, education ministries, or other groups that work in the education field.

This type of scholarship is for college students, college graduates, and Ph.D. candidates who want to study or do research at one of the public universities in the Czech Republic. The period of a scholarship usually ranges from 2 to 10 months.

Entry Criteria for Admissions

If you have successfully completed upper secondary studies in one of the signatory countries of the Lisbon Convention, are in possession of a valid school leaving certificate and qualify for higher education studies in your home country, you may also qualify for higher undergraduate education studies in the Czech Republic. However, you are requested to prove your level of Czech language and/or English or other foreign language depending on the language of instruction of your course/study program. In some cases, you may also need to take more classes or even take and pass tests to get in.

If you want to get into a master's program at a university in the Czech Republic, you must have a relevant bachelor's degree or a degree that is the same as a bachelor's.

If you want to do doctoral studies at a school in the Czech Republic, you must have a relevant diploma or master's degree program.

The minimum GPA is 3.0 out of 4.0 for master’s and 2.5 for bachelor’s programs.

If you want to apply to a study program or course for foreign students where the language of instruction is not Czech, you do not need to know how to speak Czech. If your study program or course is taught in English or any other foreign language, you may be required to prove your level of command of the foreign language. Check with your university to see if your studies of a foreign language are enough to meet this requirement.

Legalization of a diploma or certificate upon admission to the Czech Republic is not required, but their academic recognition, or nostrification (nostrifikace), is needed.

International students who have graduated from a Czech Ministry of Education-approved university are eligible to apply for a long-term permit that will let them look for work or start their own business in the Czech Republic. The foreign students are required to get a work permit, and they have to submit it in person or through another person, along with a written attorney, in any regional office of the public employment service. The administrative fees for the permit reach about 500 Czech koruna.

Exchange students or those studying in a distance mode  are allowed to work without an employment permit if they are up to the age of 26 and their performance of work does not exceed 7 consecutive calendar days or a total of 30 days within a calendar year.

Many students in the Czech Republic work and study at the same time, having a part-time job or summer job is very common.
