Why study in Poland

  • World-class universities and colleges: Poland holds the fourth position in Europe in terms of the number of students enrolled in higher education after the United Kingdom, Germany and France. Most schools, colleges and universities offer courses in foreign languages. The quality of education provided by Poland is monitored and evaluated regularly. There are in all 400 Universities with 5000 courses available, where each course has had to gain Polish Accreditation Committee’s approval. Among them there are a number of fields of study that have received excellent grades. Various Scholarships are also offered to students while studying such as GE Foundation.
  • Lower tuition costs: Compared to other EU countries, the tuition fees in Poland are highly competitive and the costs of living are a fraction of what a foreign student would have to spend in other European cities.
  • Work while you study: International students can work while they study. Students who are not nationals of EU member countries must also hold a valid residency permit. 20 hrs work is permitted during studies and 3 months of full-time work during holidays is allowed. Full time work is permitted to Residence Card holders only.
  • Post-graduate work permit: Students from member countries of the European Union can work in Poland without restriction after they graduate. If one is a graduate of a Polish higher education institution full-time program, they don’t need a permit to work in the country. In this course of time the individual needs to make sure that his/her stay permit is in order. One can stay back further for 2-3 years as long as he/she can prove that he/she can financially support herself without seeking any government benefits. Students who obtain a job or accept employment can obtain a Work Permit.
  • A pathway to Poland permanent residence: All kinds of professionals can apply for a Blue card once they are employed. This is valid initially for 2 years and can be extended for further 3 years and the individual can work over all European Union in the Blue card scheme participating countries. After 5 years one can apply for the Permanent Residency option.
  • No TOEFL, IELTS required if education has been in English Medium*
  • Other Advantages: Poland is a Schengen Country i.e.. its visa allows the individual to travel to 26-member countries. It also provides ECTS (European Credit Transfer System) that allows students to take study transfers in any EU country. Studying engineering in Poland can save one year by completing Bachelors for 3 years and Masters for 1.5 to 2 years.
  • Poland is also one of the 28 members of the European Union (EU).

Education System in Poland

Education System in Poland

Higher education institutions run full-time, extramural, evening and external courses. Full-time courses are defined as the basic type of studies. Poland conforms to the guidelines from the Bologna Process in European higher education. The degree system based on the three-cycle structure has been successfully implemented together with the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS). The European standard in higher education makes it easier for students to obtain recognition of their qualifications in other countries.

  • 1st CYCLE:
First-cycle studies (3 to 4 years) leading to the professional title of a licencjat or inżynier(Engineer, in the field of engineering, agriculture or economics). This is the Polish equivalent of the Bachelor’s degree. It is focused on preparing students for future employment or for continued education within a Master’s degree program. To obtain this degree, students must earn 180-240 ECTS credits.
  • 2nd CYCLE:
Second-cycle studies – Master’s degree program (1.5 to 2 years) following the first cycle studies and leading to the professional title of Master (magister, or an equivalent degree depending on the course profile). It is focused on theoretical knowledge as well as the application and development of creative skills. In arts disciplines, the focus is on the development of creativity and talents. Master’s degree holders may enter a doctoral program (third-cycle studies). To obtain the degree, students must earn 90-120 ECTS credits.
  • LONG-CYCYLE STUDIES
In addition to the general structure, 11 fields of study including acting, art conservation and restoration, canon law, dentistry, law, medical analysis, medicine, production and photography, pharmacy, psychology and veterinary medicine, offer long-cycle programs only.
  • Long-cycle studies – Master’s degree program (4.5 to 6 years) leading to the professional title of Master (magister), or an equivalent degree depending on the course profile). To obtain this degree, students must earn 270-360 ECTS credits. Such single long-cycle studies are based on an integrated study program containing both basic studies and in-depth specialisation. Completion of this degree will provide a qualification corresponding to a second-cycle Master’s degree.
  • 3rd CYCLE:
Third-cycle studies – Doctoral degree programs (normally 3 to 4 years) accessible for graduates of a Master’s degree program, leading to a PhD degree, offered by universities as well as some research institutions (departments of the Polish Academy of Sciences as well as research and development institutions). A PhD degree is awarded to candidates who submit and successfully defend a doctoral dissertation before a thesis committee and pass a doctoral examination.
